Welcome to our Puppy Page
If you have landed here it is likely that you are in the process of researching the Catalan Sheepdog, or, you may even have already fallen in love with our fantastic rare breed and are looking to acquire a puppy. Whatever your position, the Catalan Club of Great Britain can help you in your quest.
Breeding Objectives
The Catalan Club is committed to promote and to protect the breed here in the UK. We are totally passionate about our little Basque herding breed. Our mission is to carefully grow their presence here in the UK and to ensure that the breed remains healthy and true to type by encouraging the careful selection and considered mating of appropriate breeding partners. All of this of course requires excellent homes and owners who understand the breed and can embrace their natural character and qualities.
Club Code of Ethics (CoE)
As a registered member of the Royal Kennel Club, the Catalan Club is governed by RKC rules & regulations. The Club’s Code of Ethics sets out the highest standards required of Club Members in terms of dog ownership & welfare, health testing, breeding practices and general conduct. Our CoE can be downloaded here. We recommend that you read and understand this, as it is a good guide as to what you should expect from any credible breeder when looking for a puppy.
Approved Breeder
Club members who also breed are fully signed up to abide by the Club’s Code of Ethics and as such we are happy to list contact details and status of any litters that may be available. Details are listed separately on this page. These breeders should be able to help and advise you even if you are at the earliest stages of your research.
Disclaimer: The Catalan Club of Great Britain does not sell puppies and can give no guarantees as to the quality or suitability of any puppy that you may purchase from Club Members. Any sales transaction is solely between you and the breeder concerned.
Health
Through selective and careful breeding it is possible to reduce the risk of inherited health issues. The Catalan Club require that all breeders carry out the testing of Hips and Eyes of all breeding partners prior to mating. Please visit our Health page here for full details.

Top Tips – Acquiring Your Puppy
- As part of your research we strongly recommend that you actually meet a Catalan Sheepdog for real before you firm up your plans to acquire a puppy.
- You can meet Catalans at Discover Dogs held at Crufts in early March of each year. The Club man’s a breed stand across all 4 days where you can talk to knowledgeable owners and meet the dogs, plus there is so much too see at Crufts and it is a fun day out.
- The Club also holds it’s annual Club Show day in April near Stratford upon Avon just off the M40. You are welcome to come along and meet the Committee, Club Members and typically 30 – 40 Catalans. If you have other doggie members of the family then they are welcome too and can take part in some of the fun activities.
- The breed is still rare in the UK, and you should expect to have to wait for a puppy. It is not unusual to wait between 6 to 18 months. Breeders normally have waiting lists, so the best approach is to contact the breeders by email or telephone to find out more, and ask how to join their waiting list.
- We strongly recommend that you actually visit more than one breeder if you can. Any credible breeder will be keen to get to know you and to understand where their beautiful pups will be going to, so do expect further conversations. They should also be happy that you visit them and meet some of their Catalans and particularly the mother of the planned mating. Whilst the father may live elsewhere, you should be able to see photos, pedigrees and health test results for both parents.
Good luck with your quest. If you would like to discuss anything further with the Club then click on the link below. We would be happy to help.
